So yeah, if you know me, I love shoes, but I’m not a big fan of basketball shoes. They’re big, clunky… and lot of people I see wearing them for casual use… don’t know how to carry them. They don’t look awesome, even if the shoes are (i.e. Jordans, Kobes, LeBrons). I don’t know, somehow, they just don’t make it work. And basketball shoe designs bore me. As in. (So yeah, I’m going to hide from the hate now. XD And I’m going to hide doubly from the hate I’m likely to get because I don’t know the proper terms about the sneakers or whatever. XD)
That all changed when I stumbled upon the article of WheninManila.com about Kevin Durant revealing his latest line of basketball shoes, the KD7 line. Yeah, I’m that out of touch with basketball shoes, because it’s already been 6 lines prior and I didn’t even know about it. XD For some reason, even though I’m not a big fan of basketball shoes (and I’m definitely not a sneaker head), I clicked the link. I guess when it comes to basketball, I’m generally interested. XD
So I click this link, and then this photo (taken from link mentioned above) shows up:
And then I see it… Durant is holding up… is that an orange shoe in his left hand?
And then of course, I read through the article. XD And then I see another photo (still taken from link) of the “orange” shoe:
And I’m like… wait, is this orange? Sure doesn’t look like it. But then, reading through the article revealed some interesting trivia:
-Kevin Durant before wanted to be weatherman when he grew up.
-KD has always been fascinated with meteorology.
-Each shoe has a story, which is why it was designed that way, with different colors.
So I browse down some more, and then I also get attracted to another shoe design:
Is it because I’m from La Salle or something? Haha. XD Anyway, for some reason, even though I wasn’t really sure about the orange design, the thought of the KDs never really left my head. I guess what I liked about it was aside from the crazy colors was that there’s a story in every shoe, that there was a representation of something. As in every time I would pass by a Nike store, I would remember it. I even passed by one in Century City mall then looked at the price. I was like, basketball shoes cost this much???
I told my wife about my unexplainable KD7 shoe obsession, and she kept dismissing it, with lines of “What the heck are you going to use that for? You don’t play basketball!” and “It’s too expensive.” Sometimes, not even lines, just “No.”. Hehe. XD Because she is a very patient wife, I can rehash this particular conversation with no problem. Haha. XD
Anyway, I forgot how this happened, but when we were in Singapore recently to shoot the prenup of Mark and Bianca, the shoe was brought up again, and Mark and Bianca were actually helping me in convincing Rae to allow me to buy the shoe, but to no avail. Haha. XD Then when we were shopping at Singapore, I was kind of getting sad because I couldn’t find anything that I wanted to buy. To cheer me up, Rae finally told me the reason she was discouraging me from buying the shoes was because she wanted to be the one to buy for me for our anniversary (slash Christmas slash birthday… wow, that’s a lot XD). So… awww. XD
So back to the Philippines, I got worried again because the design that I liked (yes, I settled on the design they call Nike KD 7 35,000 Degrees, because I saw it in real life, and it’s orange!) would be phased out soon, because they ARE launching new designs… so Rae finally bought me a pair. Yay! 😀 And of course, because these shoes are so awesome (and pretty XD), I took a few photos. 🙂
I love the fact that it’s very subtle. It’s not screaming “I’m a shoe for Kevin Durant!”; the KD is a very subtle touch. Also love the design of the shoelaces and the rubber strap. Speaking of… wow, I haven’t worn a shoe with a rubber strap in the longest time. ^^
I love that the sole is also so very colorful, and the lightning adds a nice breaker to the color.
Yay, swoosh design. Haven’t worn any Nikes for a long time either. Just a thought. XD
So yes, I probably won’t be wearing these shoes for any pickup basketball game, but I have worn them like three times already. They feel great on my feet, and actually are not heavy and clunky like I thought of basketball shoes before. They have great ankle support, and I love the feel of the padding on the sole… or whatever you call it. I guess it helps cushion players’ feet when they jump and land? XD I’m taking care of them too, because I don’t them to get dirty. XD Yes, this is what you call ironic. But hey, when sports shoes are this awesome, what are you going to do, right? XD
Thanks super to my wife for getting me these shoes. I love you very much. 😀
